Me - Gabriela Falarz

In my 46-odd years on this planet, I have been many things. Currently, I am (in no particular order) a writer and editor, Toronto resident, size acceptance activist, film and book lover, metalhead/new wave/punk rock chick, Tudor history buff, mental explorer, perpetual optimist, and an enthusiastic admirer of "new age" thinking and philosophy.

Since I was old enough to pick up a pencil, I've been a writer. This led to many binders full of handwritten scribble and manually typewritten stories piled up in my closet. After my teens, I embarked on a "hate affair" with practicality and what felt like a prison sentence in the 9-to-5 world. During this time, I wrote frantically, and got many short stories and articles published in a wonderful little magazine called Authors. After that magazine folded, I decided to write and publish my own zine, Slush Pile. About a year later, when I had my daughter, I found the demands of both publisher and editor quite incompatible with my new role as a mom. I decided to study editing in college, graduated, and worked as an editor for a law firm. I still work as a freelance editor.

One of my passions is size acceptance. I have been a full-figured woman for most of my life, and as you can imagine, have quite a few opinions on the subject. I created and write my own blog, which you can find by clicking on my Personal Homepage.

I consider it one of my missions in life to help women love and accept themselves exactly the way they are. It is entirely possible to be happy, confident, and successful at any size, but unfortunately far too many women (and men) buy into the belief that you must be thin to be happy. This is simply not true, and I am living proof.
